Botanical Gardens

The Jardín Botánico de Medellin (Medellin’s Botanical Garden) is a thriving green oasis in the heart of Medellín. This lush, colorful paradise is a quiet and tranquil refuge from the bustling city streets. Founded in 1972, this beautiful park was created in memory of one the country’s most respected naturalist, Joaquin Antonio Uribe.

Located next to the University of Antioquia, Explora Park, the Medellin Aquarium, and the Park of Wishes (Parque de los Deseos), it’s the perfect place to have a picnic or to relax on a busy day of sight seeing.  The botanical garden features nine different zones including a tropical forest, a desert garden, and a butterfly habitat.  Iguanas can be seen feasting on water lilies inside the lake habitat alongside turtles, ducks, and fish.  The garden also boasts the architecturally stunning Orchid Pavillion (Orquideorama) for special events, an open-air amphitheater which hosts concerts, and a science and research center that is open to the public.

On the first Sunday of every month vendors and patrons alike flock to the Botanical Garden to take part in the Green Market.  Beyond the food and crafts for sale, this organic market includes a free concert, yoga session, and a gardening workshop.

  • The finca was unbelievable. The house was open-aired with hammocks hanging everywhere, sitting right atop a high bluff looking down at a valley and river, with steep rock cliffs and a waterfall behind you. The horses were young and eager to run (much different than the old sway backs you get at a dude ranch!), and the food there was wonderful. -Ashley E.

  • Hands down, the highlight of my trip to Colombia was my stay with Marcela and Noah at Su Casa Colombia. It is clear how much they love their country and their enthusiasm is contagious! I learned so much about the culture (especially the food!) and felt that my time spent there was truly unique and authentic...livin' like a local! Our trip to the finca and waterfall rappelling was crazy fun! I knew I was in good hands and it definitely rivals sky diving for the biggest adrenaline rush I've had. And let's not forget all the wonderful food we had thanks to the incredible staff at the finca. I can't wait to go back! Thank you Su Casa Colombia! -Joanna M.
