We always love it when we have guests during the first Saturday of every month, because that means we can show off the handy-work of Medellin’s artisans. The monthly San Alejo Artisan Fair is a great place to buy hand crafted souvenirs and to peruse their wares with the locals. Below are some pictures from this weekend’s fair and some of our favorite finds. Enjoy!

It’s starting to warm up here in Medellín and that means the frequency of rain showers is going down and the number of beautiful days is going up. We couldn’t be happier to be entering into Colombia’s busy holiday season with nearly a year under our belts in this terrific country we call home. The months of November, December, and January are magical times in Colombia when life slows down, more time is spent with friends and family, and there’s something going on pretty much every weekend.

Speaking of which, we’re in the midst of a wonderful weekend in Medellín. Last night was the 3^rd annual International Tango festival where professional Tango dancers from around the country and world came to our city to show off their stuff and entertain the masses. Today, on Saturday, there is an all-day artisan market where artists and craft makers from nearby villages flood into downtown to set up their stalls and hock their wares. You can head down there if you’re in need of new furniture, some antiques for your collection, or just a souvenir to give as a gift back home. And tomorrow, on Sunday, the city’s Botanical Garden opens its gates to the public so they can enjoy the Mercado Verde or Green Market. In addition to the organic farmer’s market, free tai chi and yoga classes are offered, gardening lessons and free concerts. It’s an all-around funfest.
